“The first single that I ever bought was ‘The Treasure of Love’ by Clyde McPhatter.
“Since I started buying records in the ’50s, I soon discovered rock ’n’ roll. ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On’ was one of the first records I bought, and ‘Great Balls of Fire.’ It was pretty much Elvis, Jerry Lee, Little Richard, Fats Domino and Chuck Berry -- they were the rockers whose records I bought.
“And then soul and rhythm ‘n’ blues singers like Clyde McPhatter and later on Ben E. King, Brook Benton and people like that.”
