“ ‘Ray Charles in Person,’ a live album that he recorded in Atlanta in 1959, was the first LP that I ever bought, and the first single I ever bought was ‘Don’t Roll Those Bloodshot Eyes at Me’ by Wynonie Harris.

“But the first record that I was given was by Johnnie Ray -- ‘The Little White Cloud That Cried’ with ‘Cry’ on the other side. He was a really phenomenal performer.”
