“No, but I remember the first album that I bought that had a string bass on it. Actually now, I can’t remember the title, but it was Mingus album.It was recorded live at some club in Boston. On the album cover, he was carrying a bass over his shoulder. I remember that because I had never listened to a string bass jazz album before, and it made a huge impression on me.

“But at the same time I was listening to albums by Frank Zappa, Pablo Cassals, the Beatles, the Velvet Underground and all sorts of other stuff. I’ve always liked all kinds of music.”
