JACK JONES
pop singer
“Let’s see, what was it? I think it was by Shorty Rogers and the Giants. Yeah. I went out and bought jazz records when I was a kid. I was a weirdo. Everybody else was listening to rhythm‘n’blues -- ‘One Mint Julip’ and stuff like that. ‘Yaketty Yak’ by the Coasters was a hit when I was in school.
“But I was hearing jazz -- and Sinatra, of course. My favorite album that I went out and bought was Sinatra’s ‘Only the Lonely.’ I must have been a very depressed kid. Fortunately, however, I was not suicidal.”
