guitarist with rock group the Black Crowes
“I can’t remember how old I was, but I think the first album that I actually bought was by Prince. ‘Dirty Mind.’ Some girl had given by brother Chris that first Prince album with ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’ on it.
“My dad was a huge Parliament fan, so we grew up loving Parliament/Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone and all that stuff. Then we started listening to Prince and the Time. I think that the first concert that Chris ever went to was Kool and the Gang and a band called Slave. The first concert I went to was Cameo with a guy named O’Bryan opening for them.
“But also around that same time, I got way into AC/DC. I loved AC/DC. The first AC/DC album I bought was ‘If You Want Blood, You’ve Got It,’ the live record. I bought it because Angus had his guitar stuck in his back on the cover. I thought that was so cool. I was like 10 or 11 years old or something like that.”
