“The first album I bought was called ‘Hot Rod Hootenanny.’ It had a cover drawn by Ed ‘Big Daddy’ Roth. The songs were all about cars on one side and all about surfing on the other, I think. The music was alright, but not as important as the cover art. I had no idea what it would sound like when I bought it.
“The first real rock record I bought was ‘Jan and Dean Live at the TAMI Show.’ I would love to find a copy of it. I haven’t heard it for 30 years. Jan and Dean did several of their hits and talked a lot between songs. They were real funny. I have no idea whatever happened to my copy of that, and I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere.”
