“It was the Rolling Stones’ ‘Tattoo You.’ And I didn’t even have a record player at the time.

“I didn’t always do smart things when I was a kid. But I was always an optimistic kid. I didn’t have anything to listen to music on except a radio. I lived out in the sticks, so there was really only one radio station to listen to, and it was terrible. So I was pretty starved for good music.

“I really wanted a record player, and I thought that if I bought a record, then maybe someday I’d have a record player. So I bought ‘Tattoo You,’ and lo and behold, that Christmas I got a record player. And I already had something to play on it.”
