“The first 45 that I ever bought was by Grand Funk Railroad. What was that song? ‘Locomotion,’ yeah, that was it.
“The first album I ever bought? I’m not sure, but it might have been Kiss’ ‘Rock and Roll Over.’ It had ‘Dr. Love’ on it, and it came with those stickers that I put on my door and wouldn’t come off, and my mom really got mad. That was probably the first album that I bought.
“But the first record that I ever actually remember listening to and calling my own when I was a kid was Johnny Horton’s ‘Greatest Hits.’ The music was cool because it had those stories about ‘Sink the Bismarck’ and ‘Johnny Reb’ and ‘Commanche’ and all of those. But the coolest thing was that there was a huge picture of him on the cover, and I drew a patch on his eye and blackened out some of his teeth, which got my dad really mad at me. So, that album was mine then, after I did that.”
